Unique in its type, it is the best way to get to know the Lakes Region. Three activities mixed during a whole week, to discover the most surprising corners of the Parque Nacional Lanin. To sail the lakes in canadian like canoes, to go horse riding through paths in the forest, or climb the Lanin Volcano’s slopes, are enough reasons to dare share a few camping days in the heart of the forest.
Meeting with the guide to prepare the gear and check the itinerary.Night in San Martín de los Andes. Dinner on your own.
Once we leave our transport(2hs driving into the park), we'll have our first approach to the canoes, We'll paddle Curruhue lake, almost one third of its length , like 6 kmts, up to a dark volcaninc sand beach. After lunch and a short portage to next lake. After preparing our camp spot for the next two nights, we'll paddle the Laguna Verde to some natural pools formed by the Escorial and back to camping place.
Early in the morning, we hike heading to the Achen Niyeu Volcano base, more precisely to the Portezuelo waterfall. We'll walk approximately 2 hr and a half through a forest path that disappears as we gain altitude, to bereplaced by a huge volcanic sand valley. In the afternoon we'll get back to our base camp in the Laguna Verde.
Short 6k transfer (can be done walking)to next lake. Now that we have some experience, we paddle on Epulafquen Lake, next to a huge Escorial, solidified lava river, to get to the old Forest Ranger Station, and then cross to Huechulafquen Lake, to Bahia Azul, bay, where we'll spend the night.
This lake is the bigest in the national park and so can have hard winds. Reason why we´ll start early in the mornig crossing its western cost so as to get to the narrowness that conects to next lake. The best view of Lanin Volcano that you can find shows the way to Mapuches lands. Depending on how the winds are we get to Paimun Lake shore to camp at Payalafquens family camping place.
During the morning,we´ll meet Enrique young gaucho scout, one of twelve siblings Figueroa family, owners of the lands and horses. Prepare the horse packs , fix saddles and strips and star our ride . It starts at the Lanín Volcano south base, crossing through characteristic beech forests, through narrow trails to get to El Saltillo waterfall. After a pic nic lunch, we keep going downhill back to lake shore and camping place. It is about 5hs on the horse. You don´t need previous experience.
This is more relaxing day, we get paddling along rocky walls up to sandy nice beaches where to have our lunch and come back to where the van will be waiting to drive us back to San Martin. Four hours canoing, and two hours driving. Dinner all toghether. End of the trip.
